Frequently Asked Questions ~ FAQ

When do classes begin?  The first 100-hour Certificate program has open enrollment.  Hours:  Tuesdays and Thursdays (10am-2pm or 6-9pm) and Saturdays (9am-1pm).

How long will it take me to become certified?  The first 100-hour certificate course takes most people about 10-12 weeks to complete.  The "Open Lab" is self-paced, with flexible hours.  We have an Instructor here Tues and Thurs from 9am-9pm and Saturdays from 9-3 to work with you.  You may come anytime during these hours, stay as long as you like, and leave when you're ready.  Learning at your own pace is truly the best way to learn massage.

How much will the training cost?  There are 2 payment methods you may choose from.  The cost of the first 100-hours is $1295.  You may pay in advance and save $100, totaling $1195 or you may begin the class with $300 down and make payments.  This fee includes: registration fee, state fees, student notebook, anatomy textbook ($50 value), a holster and bottle of oil ($20 value), and face-cradle cover ($7 value), student liability insurance, membership to a professional association, and a magazine subscription.

Are there any additional fees or materials required?  Nothing additional is required.  We do have a small supply of books, oils, and miscellaneous massage items that you may purchase if you wish.  You will need to bring a set of clean, cotton sheets each time you come to class.  Massage tables are provided for your use in class.  Tables or massage chairs may be rented for practice at home ($15/day).  We have arranged an affordable student package, with a professional massage table manufacturer if you want to purchase your own massage table with accessories.

How many hours can I get total?  Additional classes towards a 500 or 1000-hour massage certificate or a 1250-hour Holistic Health Practitioner certificate are offered each calendar quarter.  Each certificate program has a set of "core classes as well as some "electives".  You may tailor your program to suite your massage style or your client's needs.  Some go very therapeutic taking Deep Tissue, Sports Massage and Advanced Anatomy and Kinesiology, while others go very Eastern, taking Shiatsu and Acupressure and Eastern Modalities.  The choice is yours.  Enjoy your training!

Do you have financial assistance?  We offer certification of 100 hours to begin with, not 500 or 700.  Becoming certified sooner means you may work and earn massage income sooner.  This 100-hour certificate program will teach you a Day Spa-like, relaxing massage routine, start to finish.  Eighty percent of the class is hands-on practice.  Our goal is to teach you well enough to get a part-time job and pay for additional classes with money you've made from massage.  Many students are surprised to find that they are able to accomplish this relatively quickly.  We call it Earn as you Learn.  Who wants a $12,000 student loan bill to pay off after graduation?  We have graduates working all over the county and they let us know when their company has openings.  Many spa managers and chiropractors call, wanting to hire Lincoln Institute graduates.

Will I get a free table with my class?  We do not automatically include a table in the cost of the certificate program.  Not every student needs a new table.  Some students already own a table or have access to one.  If you find that owning a table is necessary, we will work with you to be sure the table you select is the best one to meet your needs.  Tables vary.  Depending upon the type of massage you will be giving, who you will be working on, where your table will be located, many factors must be considered when buying a table.  We will help you select the best table based on the way you'll be using it most.  We want you to be happy with your first table choice so your investment will last you years.  We work with several professional table manufacturer, which build excellent quality tables, backed by a great warranty.

Is your school accredited?  Yes, in 1999 Lincoln Institute was approved by the State of California, Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.  This was a state department which monitored, audited and approved private schools and their instructors.  In 2003 the Bureau re-approved and granted authorization to expand our programs to include a 1000-hour Massage Practitioner program and a 1250-hour Holistic Health Practitioner program. The Bureau in Sacramento was closed in 2007 and is undergoing legislative restructuring.  At this time we are awaiting legislative changes which will redirect the oversight and approval process of private postsecondary schools in the State of California. Lincoln Institute has always complied with state and local laws.  We continue to comply with the expired education laws until new standards and regulations are set forth.  We are now voluntarily governed by the California State, Department of Consumer Affairs.
