Frequently Asked Questions ~ FAQ

How long will it take me to become certified:

The first 100-hour certificate course takes most people about 10-12 weeks to complete.  The "Open Lab" is self-paced, with flexible hours.  We have an Instructor here Tues and Thurs from 9am-9pm and Saturdays from 9-3 to work with you.  You may come anytime during these hours, stay as long as you like, and leave when you're ready.  Learning at your own pace is truly the best way to learn massage.

Fee's, Additional Materials, Massage Tables:

Nothing additional is required.  We do have a small supply of books, oils, and miscellaneous massage items that you may purchase if you wish.  You will need to bring a set of clean, cotton sheets each time you come to class.  Massage tables are provided for your use in class.  Tables or massage chairs may be rented for practice at home ($15/day).  We have arranged an affordable student package, with a professional massage table manufacturer if you want to purchase your own massage table with accessories.

We do not automatically include a table in the cost of the certificate program.  Not every student needs a new table.  Some students already own a table or have access to one.  If you find that owning a table is necessary, we will work with you to be sure the table you select is the best one to meet your needs.  Tables vary.  Depending upon the type of massage you will be giving, who you will be working on, where your table will be located, many factors must be considered when buying a table.  We will help you select the best table based on the way you'll be using it most.  We want you to be happy with your first table choice so your investment will last you years.  We work with several professional table manufacturer, which build excellent quality tables, backed by a great warranty.

Do you have financial assistance:

We offer certification of 100-hours to begin with, not 500 or 700.  Becoming certified sooner means you may work and earn massage income sooner.  This 100-hour certificate program will teach you a Day Spa-like, relaxing massage routine, start to finish.  Eighty percent of the class is hands-on practice.  Our goal is to teach you well enough to get a part-time job and pay for additional classes with money you've made from massage.  Many students are surprised to find that they are able to accomplish this relatively quickly.  We call it Earn as you Learn.  Who wants a $12,000 student loan bill to pay off after graduation?  We have graduates working all over the county and they let us know when their company has openings.  Many spa managers and chiropractors call, wanting to hire Lincoln Institute graduates.

Is your school accredited:

No, However  in 1998, Lincoln institute was inspected and approved, by the Bureau for Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education. The State of California department under the department of Consumer Affairs, monitored, audited and approved private schools, and their instructors evaluation such things as curriculum, organization and management, facilities, student records and services, admission standards and graduation requirements. In 2002, Lincoln Institute of Body Therapy was inspected and re-approved and granted authorization to expand its programs and continue operation. We are in good standing with the Bureau, based upon section 94802(b)(1),(2) of the ("Act") AB 48 Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education Act of 2009.

There are a variety of voluntary accreditation companies and agencies, which will for a fee, audit and approve, but at this time no mandatory accreditation or state approval is required. Lincoln Institute of Body Therapy as well as many other California private schools has entered into a voluntary agreement with the Department of Consumer Affairs to comply with all the state statues, rules and regulations pertaining to private Post-Secondary institutions as defined in the Education code as it existed in June 2007 while a new regulatory agency and process is determined. Approval or accreditation does not give you better massage skills or grant you higher paying the work force. Choose a school with a long-standing history of state approvals and whose programs, instructors and administrative staff comply with the California state's Education Code. More importantly, choose a school with a reputation for massage excellence.
